Congratulations! You’ve either decided to start a blog or you’ve already started! I’m going to tell you how I went from 2 monthly viewers to 102K monthly viewers in less than 2 months using Tailwind. Pinterest is a huge source for getting traffic to your blog. If I didn’t have Pinterest I wouldn’t have a 3rd of the traffic that I have now.
I’m sure you have probably heard of Tailwind because it’s everywhere on Pinterest. As a new blogger, it can be a little scary to invest in blogging tools. Especially before you even know if it’s something you want to do. When I decided to start my blog, I went in with the mindset that I wasn’t going to spend money. I’m serious, I didn’t want to spend one single cent. My mind quickly changed when I learned that I needed to actually pay for a site before I could make money from my blog. That was when I realized that a blog is like any other business. You must invest in your business to make money.
What is Tailwind?
Tailwind is a tool that you can use to schedule pins. You can schedule your pins for the entire week in just one day and Tailwind will automatically post them for you. It looks like this.
Why should I be using Tailwind?
I wondered the same thing. Why can’t I just go in throughout the day and pin things as I find them? There are a couple of reasons why this isn’t as effective. First, Tailwind will suggest time slots, like you see above. These time slots are when your viewers or followers are most active on Pinterest. This will help ensure that your pin is found by others and it doesn’t get lost in the bottom of their feed. Second, you need to pin at least 10 -20 pins a day to keep up with the traffic on Pinterest. I don’t know about you but I don’t have that much time to pin on Pinterest. You would need to go in several times throughout the day and pin. The best reason I have found to join Pinterest is Tailwind Tribes. Please see below 🙂
What is a Tailwind Tribe?
A Tailwind Tribe is a group of Tailwind users that created a “Tribe” typically all from the same niche. I blog about travel and blogging so I have joined travel tribes and blogging tribes. When you schedule a post on Tailwind, you get the option to add it to a tribe. When you add a post to a Tribe, it goes to the home screen of that Tribe. Once it is on the home screen, all members of that tribe will see it and can schedule it to repin. This is AMAZING! As a blogger with a brand new site, I was only having 10 – 20 viewers a day. I had one person repin my pin and the next day I had over 400 viewers!
How to join Tribes
With the free trial and basic membership, you can join 5 tribes. You can always add more tribes by paying for “Powerup”. I did do this and now I am a member of 10 tribes and I can submit 80 posts a month to my tribes. Here is what it will look like when you search for tribes. I have narrowed down my search to just travel. When you’re looking for a tribe to join, do not look for a tribe with the highest members. I made that mistake with the first tribe that I joined and my pins always got lost in the mix. Instead, look for a tribe that has 4 or 5 active bars. You should also view the Tribe rules before you join. You want to make sure that your posts will follow the rules of that tribe.
How to make board lists
Another great thing about Tailwind is board lists. You can create a board list for all the boards that are similar to each other. For example, I am a member of 8 different group boards on Pinterest and they’re all related to travel. I created a board list and put all of these boards in it. Now, when I want to pin something to all of these boards, I can just select the board list.
How to schedule pins
Now you’ve learned what Tailwind is and how to join a tribe. Now it’s time to learn how to schedule your pins. Tailwind makes it extremely easy to schedule from anywhere. You can add an extension to your web browser and pin directly from your blog. Tailwind will show you how to do this when you create an account. You can also download the app and schedule from Pinterest on your phone. When you want to schedule content from your blog, you just have to hit the tailwind extension. This will automatically pull up all of the images in your blog post for you to choose from. Make sure you choose the image that you are using for Pinterest.
Now it will bring up a pop-up and you will be able to select the board you want to pin to. If you created a board list you will see it here. I want this pin to go to my “Travel” board list so I will select that. Now it will post to all of those pages with just the click of a button.
That’s it! That is my mini-course on Tailwind and how I have used it to blow up my Pinterest. I have attached screenshots below to show how much Tailwind has helped my Pinterest traffic. If you would like to try Tailwind you can sign up here for your free trial.
